Bank Holiday at The Monarch

Posted April 23, 2010

We are not part of the official Crawl this year which means you don’t need a wristband to get in. Oh yes. On May 1st we have a one-off night called Kings And Queens – party music, soundtracks and so on – and on May 2nd is the triumphant return of Grimble And Porn – which is like a house party… but in a pub.

ANIMAL KINGDOM

To finish off the night we call on a band whose songs are truly epic. Their first release got rave reviews and now signed up to Warner Music, Animal Kingdom are building a spectacular live show with their sound reminiscent of Mew or a more song-based Sigur Rós.

“The sonic sweep and grandeur of early Radiohead and second album-era Coldplay … Achingly beautiful celestial indie … Will have Sigur Rós quivering with envy.” The Guardian

BABE SHADOW

Your chance to catch one of London’s hottest new acts before they go on tour with Florence & The Machine in May and become super massive big.
This duo play songs that will whirl around your head for days with their mix of traditional folk and an otherworldly tropical oasis of holiday fun.
It’s uplifting frivolity on the beach kind of stuff, calling to mind everything from Mystery Jets to XTC.

THE GOOD NATURED

With pounding pianos providing the undertones of a rave tune, this is the perfect opener to a full-on birthday bash!

“She sounds like a warmer, more personal Ladytron.” The Guardian
