Posted February 2, 2010
Over the last two years Play It By Ear Club has been bringing new bands, new songs and new friends to
Saturday nights at the Monarch in Camden. We’ve loved sharing the party with you
and now we’re asking you to help extend the fun in a whole new way as we invite you to

MAKE SOME NOISE for the Consortium for Street Children

makesomenoisesmall

Kicking off with a pop quiz hosted by Rough Trade’s Paul Guided Missile,
this is a night of electrifying musical acts, top raffle
prizes, and the opportunity to get your mitts on celebrity hand-designed t-shirts all for £6.

The money will go directly to the CSC, which works to better the lives of
children on the street or at risk of living on them.

Saturday February 27th, doors open at 7pm, the quiz starts at 7.30pm and
bands follow afterwards! Buy your tickets in advance to avoid disappointment!

Play It By Ear presents MAKE SOME NOISE in aid of the Consortium for
Street Children
Starring:

***H-BOOGIE***

Estelle may be the symbol of the best UK R&B but her little sister
H-Boogie aka Haidara Swaray is the best of UK pop.
Despite touring together, H-Boogie’s sound rests firmly in synth-pop
style of Little Boots with a dash of Ladyhawke 80s sensibility and a
smidge of thecocknbullkid's distinctive lyrical bite.

***ROTTEN HILL GANG***

This Notting Hill collective are known for their Victoriana outfits,
cheeky ragamuffin personas, heavy bass and blend of MC rapping. If
you’re lucky a certain Mick Jones of The Clash who is known to guest
perform with them, may make a special appearance….

***LUNAR YOUTH***

Tipped to be HUGE this year, we are so excited to have Lunar Youth
support the CSC. Upbeat indie-pop guitar – part Roxy music, part Cure,
these dreamy guitars are sure to soundtrack the rest of your year.

DJ Sets from Plugs
and Soundtracks!

Hand-designed t-shirts from Elle McPherson, Biffy Clyro, Coolio, The
Maccabees, Mumford & Sons, Bombay Bicycle Club and many many more!!!

As if you need any more convincing, here's all you need to know about our charity, the CSC.

The Consortium for Street Children (CSC) is an international network,
including organisations such as Amnesty International and Save The
Children, which is dedicated to campaigning and promoting the rights
of street-children all over the world.

No-one knows for sure how many street-children there are. Estimates
range from 30 million to 170 million. These are youth who slip through
the safety net of government policies and statistics.
But they exist - living and working off the street, increasing in
numbers daily from the effects of warfare, recession and natural
disasters.

Often without any family contact or home life, these children become
stigmatised and are faced with sexual exploitation, gang violence,
drugs abuse, disease - trapping them in a cycle of poverty.
Despite forming one of the most vulnerable groups in society, they
continue to be one of the most under-represented and ignored.

The CSC and its members work to change this.

By informing and inspiring research and action, they influence policy
and best practice among governments worldwide leading to improvements
in the lives of disadvantaged children.

10th February: New Pets!

Posted

Another month, another Pets! on Wednesday 10th February and another eclectic mix of bands and DJs.

This month your PETS! will feature…

l_f2fbf90ceb094b34bf4cfdd8ce35cb41

The Day Dream Club
The Daydream Club are an electro/pop duo made up  of Molly Marie (a fully trained professional dancer now turning her skills to music) and multi-instrumentalist Lenny Picko. He has supported the likes of Sam Sparro, The Wombats, Sneaky Sound System and Team Waterpolo with pop band Defend Moscow. Lenny’s also a great remixer, having worked on tracks by ‘Warrior’ Magic Wands, ‘Defend Moscow and Le Corps Mince De Francoise.

Their music drenched in dream like soundscapes, luscious melodies and imagery. Combine this with some dirty-phat electro and a dabble of rootsy folk, then bundle all of that up into a neat and tidy pop package.

Charlene Soraia Jones

20 year old Charlene Soraia heralds from South London. She has released 3 successful EPs- one of which went to number one on the iTunes Folk Chart and has had the iTunes Single of the Week.  Charlene just finished recording her much anticipated debut album.  We are very pleased to welcome again Charlene at PETS!  Be ready for a stunning performance. Don’t miss out!

The Boy Icarus

The Boy Icarus is a hotly tipped folk troubadour who sounds like all of the great folk artists of years gone by had been merged into one during their prime, quickly dragged through every decade up until now, then left to fend for themselves in a post-Libertines London. In other words an old sound that manages to be very much here and now.  The Boy Icarus will perform with his full band adding glorious harmonies, string accompaniments and frantic rhythms to a diverse set that borders on lo-fi, folk, gypsie-punk and everything in between.

Danilo Borgerth

Recent winner of the Paul Walter Guitar Prize and your resident PETS! This month, we shall feature an extented set from the young wizard.

DJ music from
Jenners Field

Rockfort (Resonance FM)

Elisavet (FRoots/ Sveriges Radio)

Doors are at 7pm and Tickets cost just £5
